Embracing Fresh Design Habits

This edition is all about shaking up the design status quo... creating new habits, celebrating milestones, and proving that killer design doesn’t need a luxury budget to make a statement.

While traveling recently, I found myself flipping through a copy of Real Simple magazine for some fresh inspiration. One editor’s piece caught my attention because they weren’t focused on habits to break but instead on the power of embracing new ones. That little shift in mindset really resonated with me, especially as a designer.

It got me thinking about how often we get stuck on what not to do in home design, instead of building habits that make our spaces genuinely better, more personal, and more joyful. So I decided to explore that idea in my latest blog, where I share some thoughtful new habits that have transformed the way I approach design.

If you’re ready for a fresh perspective on designing your home, and maybe shifting your mindset along the way, go take a peek. It’s a little nudge to start making bold, fun, and purposeful design moves without the stress.

So, I got nominated for Designer’s Today 40 Under 40 and, honestly, it feels like one of those “Wait, did that really happen?!” moments. And no… not just because I’m realizing I’m almost 40! But beyond the excitement, it’s a great reminder that this design journey is about growth, pushing boundaries, and never settling for the same old.

Last quarter, I talked about Faces of Design 2025. This time, it’s about how recognition keeps nudging me to sharpen my creative edge and try even bolder ideas. The big takeaway? Keep evolving, keep taking chances, and enjoy the ride, because in design (and in life), the journey is just as important as the accolades.

Here’s to whatever challenge or milestone is next… bring it on!

It’s a classic misconception: hiring a designer means splurging on a luxury budget. But here’s the truth: good design isn’t about the price tag. It’s about smart choices.

Designers bring expertise, strategy, and vision that help you get more from your budget, not just spend more. It’s about knowing where to invest, for example, a statement light fixture or a quality countertop, and knowing where to save on ready-made furniture or other finishes that don’t sacrifice the look or function.

Even on a modest budget, the right designer can make your space feel high-end by focusing on balanced materials, clever layouts, and lighting that flatters. So don’t let budget fears keep you from getting the space you love; great design is for every budget and every lifestyle.

Luxury is a feeling, not a price tag.
